Yosemite Update Things have still been a little slow since the federal government shutdown ended and the residents of Groveland, Calif., are still feeling the effects. The small town outside
Yosemite gets an economic boost from tourists who visit the national park. The town already had a slow summer with the Rim Fire closing the road that led through Groveland. We'll talk with the owner of the
Iron Door Saloon about what's happening there. We'll also check in with a Yosemite Park Ranger about how the park fared while closed and what it means to be a
good steward of the public land.
Parent Teacher Home Visits The connection between a school and a student's family can sometimes be a weak link, especially as money for education in America remains tight. Schools can't afford to reach out to parents as much as they'd like and parents may not have the time or interest to connect with the school. And it's the students who suffer. But the
Parent Teacher Home Visit Project, which began in Sacramento 15 years ago, has been gaining ground nationally. The organization's goal is simple: teachers visit students and their parents at home and create a network of support surrounding the child. Executive Director of the Parent Teacher Home Visit Project Carrie Rose joins us to explain the organization's success with outreach and a national conference for the PTHVP this weekend in San Francisco.
