Capitol Chat The California State Legislature has just one more week before the end of the session, which means some long days are ahead and a number of the bills could be moving in bundles. Capital Public Radio's Capital Bureau Chief Ben Adler joins us from the Capitol Bureau with a look ahead at what remains for lawmakers this session. Plus, we'll get an update on the end of the prison hunger strike and hear about possible changes to CEQA.
Food Literacy Month There seems to be a painful contradiction around food in our 21st century society - we've become a nation of foodies, devouring recipes and cooking shows and Facebook pictures of dinner. At the same time, a huge portion of people, especially kids, have almost no idea about healthy eating or about ways to sustain our food supply.
The California Food Literacy Center has a few ideas how to deal with that problem. Among other things, it's got a parade of events and programs for Food Literacy Month, which includes finding new ways to teach kids and families about fresh, healthy eating, and by naming the Veggie of the Year. The Center’s founding executive director, Amber Stott, is here to tell us more. Last week, Amber was named a Food Revolution Hero by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation.
Producer Pete Berkow Pete Berkow is an Emmy-winning producer and director whose shows range from documentaries to concerts. For some of those concert films and specials, he’s worked with Dave Brubeck, Sacramento’s own Cake, guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, banjo star Bella Fleck and a lot more. He’ll be filming tonight at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley for an episode of the nationally-syndicated PBS series, Sierra Concert Stages, featuring songwriter Antsy McClain and acclaimed jazz and folk sideman Joe Craven. And it turns out, producing a concert film or series is a lot more than just turning on a camera.
"Fringe" "Fringe" is a new monthly show at Assembly Sacramento on K Street featuring comedy and a bunch off what they're calling "sideshow performances" from Sacramento and Bay Area entertainers. It's put together by Keith Lowell Jensen, a Sacramento comedian who’s almost a regular on Insight, and Jay Siren, who also hosts the show tonight. Jay's also the founder of the Sizzling Sirens Burlesque Experience.
