Friday brings the first Popfest to Old Ironsides in downtown Sacramento. Founder Jim Rivas has a deep love for the all the sounds found in this brand of "pop,"  just don't expect Top 40 hits.

Rivas shared a few standout bands playing this show with Hey, Listen! host Nick Brunner.

Clevers (Sacramento)

A high energy trio that calls to mind elements of The Pretenders, Joy Division and Patti Smith.

Slowness (San Francisco)

Laid back music that feels like a heatwave. Perfect for fans of early career Smashing Pumpkins, Luna and My Bloody Valentine.

The Very Most (Boise)

Fun with harmonies and light breezy (smart) pop music.

Sacramento Popfest

When: Friday, Sept. 6
Where: Old Ironsides 1901 10th St, Sacramento
More information: Popfest Facebook page, ticket information
