We are celebrating Thanksgiving Day with a whole host of music dedicated to appreciation and giving thanks. It’s a uniquely American holiday that was given national status by Abraham Lincoln in 1863 during the Civil War.
To get into the spirit of the holiday, we’ll hear hymn songs as well as secular pieces written with thankfulness in mind, music from composers like Philip Sparke, Vernon Duke, Peter Schickele, and David Maslanka.
We’ll also hear one of the first songs written with this holiday in mind, “Jingle Bells.” And we’ve got all of that and more, right here, at the gathering place for people who love band music, Wind & Rhythm.
