Sacramento's popular restaurant chain Zocalo is filling this former Macaroni Grill space in Folsom.

Zocalo Expands To Folsom

The Sacramento Mexican restaurant chain Zocalo is opening a new site in Folsom. Sonya Sorich from the Sacramento Business Journal says it'll be in a spot once occupied by Macaroni Grill.

"This new location on East Bidwell Street could open in February,” says Sorich. “It will be bigger than the other Zocalo restaurants in the Sacramento area. And many features at the new location will be similar to the other Zocalo sites — such as a patio and the items on the menu."

Zocalo has three other locations in: midtown Sacramento; Fountains at Roseville; and The UV. Two years ago, the restaurant's operators bought a building in West Sacramento on Capitol Avenue which they plan to use for a kitchen to serve their locations. That building is also ultimately expected to include some kind of eatery.

Chick-fil-A Dropped From El Dorado Hills Project

In El Dorado Hills, fast-food chain Chick-fil-A has been dropped from a shopping center still under development on Saratoga Way near Highway 50. The move comes after complaints from neighbors. Sorich says the complaints were not specifically about controversial statements the company's CEO has made in opposition to same-sex marriage.

"That didn't really come up as an issue, at least as a main issue, here. It was mainly about potential traffic jams and wasn't consistent with the more upscale feel of El Dorado Hills."

The building designated for Chick-fil-A will now be designed for more than one tenant. El Dorado County planners recently approved those revisions to the plan. A coffee-based operator will likely use the drive-thru space intended for the fast-food restaurant.

Target Moving Into Placerville’s Former Kmart Site

This time next year, people in Placerville will have another place to shop. A retail space once occupied by Kmart is being renovated into a new Target store. Sorich says it's expected to open next summer in the Prospector's Plaza shopping center.

"This is a big deal for shoppers in that area: It will be the first Target in Placerville. Right now, the closest Target location is in El Dorado Hills, which is about 17 miles away."

The shopping center on Missouri Flat Road has a new owner, and it's expected to get a full renovation. That includes upgrades to lighting, landscaping, paving and building facades. Right now, the center's anchors include Ross Dress for Less, CVS Pharmacy and Save Mart. But there are eight other vacant spaces.
