Since the death of John McCain Saturday, California politicians have been sharing their remembrances of the Arizona senator and former Republican presidential candidate.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein called McCain courageous and "a model for us all."
John’s perseverance and spirit should serve as a model for us all. He was a great friend, a great senator and my thoughts go out to his family for their loss.— Sen Dianne Feinstein (@SenFeinstein) August 26, 2018
Sen. Kamala Harris said McCain was "a conscience of the Senate."
My colleague John McCain will be remembered as a devoted father and husband, war hero and a conscience of the Senate. Sending my condolences and prayers to his friends and family, and to the American people who have lost a true patriot.— Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) August 26, 2018
Many members of California's congressional delegation also released statements honoring McCain.
Democratic Sacramento Congresswoman Doris Matsui called her colleague across the aisle a "dedicated and tenacious patriot." In a statement, she says the Republican senator's "loyalty and commitment to the principles of a free and just society" made the country a better place.
Here's how other California representatives expressed their admiration for McCain this weekend:
