President Donald Trump will be in Reno next week. He's scheduled to speak at the American Legion Convention on Wednesday.
Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve said in a statement that she "encourages the President to deliver a strong message rejecting racism, hate and violence" at the Legion's event.
The Reno appearance will follow a campaign-style rally in Phoenix on Tuesday.
Phoenix's Mayor Greg Stanton was critical of the rally during an appearance on MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show.
"It's ill timed after the tragic events in Charlottesville and the very disappointing response from our president to unequivocally condemn racism, unequivocally condemn white supremacy," Stanton said. "The timing could not be worse."
The Reno-Sparks Convention Center expects the Trump appearance will attract 9,000 people.
