Update 8:29 a.m.: Road delays continue across Northern California and Nevada because of additional snow and rain.
Traffic on Interstate 80 was released over Donner Summit. Though chain controls and a high wind advisory are still in effect.
U.S. Highway 50 also reopened but chains are still needed between Twin Bridges and Meyers.
Original Post: Rain and snow continue to cause road delays and closures across Northern California and Nevada.
The Sierra Avalanche Center issued an avalanche warning after the mountains around Tahoe received about two feet of snow.
The National Weather Service in Reno announced Wednesday that a winter storm warning will remain in place until Thursday morning.

The U.S. 50 at Meyers is temporarily closed for avalanche control, Caltrans tweeted. It also said spinouts and zero visibility over Donner Summit caused closure of I-80 in both directions.
Estimated time of opening for both roads has not yet been announced.
