(AP) - Southern California is bracing for two days of hot, windy weather that has triggered warnings about the potential for wildfires and falling tree branches and power lines.
The National Weather Service on Sunday reports that a red flag warning signaling critical fire weather is in effect until 3 p.m. Monday in mountainous areas east and southeast of Los Angeles.
Temperatures could reach triple digits in the Inland Empire and inland areas of Orange and San Diego counties, while winds could gust up to 45 or 55 mph (72 to 89 kph).
A wind advisory has also been issued in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Forecasters say wind gusts could down tree branches and power lines and make driving difficult.
Temperatures are expected to start cooling on Tuesday.
