The Sacramento Regional Transit Authority announced its new management structure Monday. The organization will be divided into six priority areas: accountability, transit services, partnerships, safety, planning and finance.
The reorganization follows the elimination of 20 management positions and the hiring of 16 people to clean buses, trains, and stations every day.
Henry Li is Sac RT's new General Manager and Chief Executive Officer.
"We are experiencing some significant cultural and business transformation. We want to put our customers first in everything we do," he says.
Li has been on the job for four months. He comes to Sacramento from Jacksonville.
"We can rebuild this agency as effective, efficient and accountable organization," he says.
He is proud of the awards the Jacksonville Transportation Authority received during his tenure.
"The first year after we turned it around, we won the Big Turn Around Organization award from the Jacksonville Business Journal. The second year, my organization won the White House Champion For Change. The third year, my organization won the APTA, American Public Transportation Association Outstanding Public Transportation System Award, which is the highest in the industry. That's something that we would like to copy here."
One member of Li's Jacksonville management team, Neil Nance, will join RT August 1 and will lead the Strategic Planning and System Development team in Sacramento.
Former Sacramento Bee Editor Tamma Adamek will lead the Communications and Partnerships team when she joins RT July 25.
Three current employees will take half of the leadership roles: Laura Ham will head Accountability and Performance, Mark Lonergan will lead Transit Services/Operations, and Sacramento Police Captain Norm Leong will lead the Safety and Security division.
Sac RT will post the position of Business Services and Financial Operations with the hope of filling it by late September or early October.
Retired CEO Mike Wiley has been working with RT as an advisor. His contract will expire at the end of the month.
