Original Post: Representatives from the NorCal Interagency Incident Management Team said this morning the Trailhead Fire is 85 percent contained.

Speaking live from the Trailhead Fire information office, NorCal Interagency Management representative Joe Zarkowski said that the 5,615-acre blaze will now be handled by the smaller El Dorado National Forest team of firefighters. The agency will resume full management by early tomorrow morning.

“This is going to be transferred back to the Forest, to a bit of a smaller team. We’ve got a good handle on it right now.”

Zarkowski said that the the El Dorado National Forest team will continue the work that’s already been done in containing the fire, which began on June 28 in the Middle Fork of the American River Canyon in Placer County. It later spread to El Dorado County and the El Dorado National Forest. The cause is still under investigation.

As of this morning, 1,369 fire personnel were working on containing the blaze. That number will decrease when the transfer of the fire’s handling to the El Dorado National Forest is complete.

“This fire is going to be in highly good hands. This is a highly trained, type 3 team,” he said. “The Northern California team is taking off, and the El Dorado team is coming in.”
