A "Rafting Gone Wild" event is scheduled to take place Saturday on the American River, but park rangers say they will be there to make it an alcohol-free affair.
Sacramento County has banned alcohol on the river because of drunken incidents and fighting at previous events.
Michael Doane is Chief Ranger for Sacramento Regional Parks.
He says rangers will be along the river at the best launch points, first as a preventative measure.
"They can take the alcohol back and secure it in their car, or they can destroy it on site, whichever they choose. For those who want to sneak alcohol onto the river, after that warning, then it's basically a zero-tolerance approach and citations will be issued. I'll have rangers on mountain bikes, motorcycles, and on our boat on the river."
Doane says most of his staff will work Saturday. He has asked the Sacramento County Sheriff's department to be on standby as backup.
