Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill that requires professional sports teams in California to treat their cheerleaders as employees – not independent contractors.
The measure came in response to lawsuits that alleged pro sports cheerleaders were underpaid. It passed the Legislature on mostly party-line votes, although there was no formal opposition.
The governor has also signed a bill that allows limited beer tastings at farmers markets.
