(AP) -- A 29-year-old suburban Sacramento man is charged with selling military-style assault weapons, explosives and a silencer to undercover agents who were posing as arms dealers for drug trafficking organizations.
A federal grand jury in Sacramento indicted James Christopher Malcolm Thursday on charges of transferring explosive materials to be used in a crime of violence or drug trafficking crime; unlawful dealing in firearms; and two counts of possession of machine guns.
Aside from the weapons and 1.5 pounds of explosives, federal agents say Malcolm sold agents parts to convert 10 semi-automatic handguns into fully-automatic machine guns.
His attorney, federal defender Benjamin David Galloway, did not immediately return a telephone message.
Malcolm is set to appear in court June 12. The charges carry maximum sentences of up to 10 years in federal prison.
