New Poll Shows Kashkari Leading Donnelly

  •  Marianne Russ
Monday, June 2, 2014 | Sacramento, CA

A new statewide survey finds California Governor Jerry Brown is heading into Tuesday's primary election with a huge lead and the race between the Republican candidates has tightened considerably.

The poll by the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the Los Angeles Times finds that among likely voters, 50 percent plan to cast their ballot for Governor Brown.

But the real change is between the Republicans vying to challenge Brown. The polls shows 18 percent of voters support businessman Neel Kashkari and 13 percent support State Assemblyman and tea party candidate Tim Donnelly.

Kashkari had trailed Donnelly previously. The split between Kashkari and Donnelly is within the poll's margin of error, making the race between them a dead heat. Ten percent of likely voters were undecided. Kashkari has raised far more money than Donnelly, and recently bought political advertising.

The survey of about 1,500 registered voters was conducted late last month.
