Five Firefighters Injured In Mariposa County Wildfire

Officials said five firefighters have been injured in the Hunters Fire, which is burning in Mariposa County. But CalFire says none of the injuries is life-threatening.

The Hunters Fire started Monday and quickly spread to the dry brush in the steep foothills of Mariposa County. Daniel Berlant with Cal Fire says there are more than 500 fire fighters from Cal Fire, the U.S. Forest Service and dozens of local fire agencies fighting the flames.  He says it's been difficult to access the fire.

"There’s a combination of steep terrain, grass fields, so in some areas, access there is challenging," says Berland.

Berlant says about 100 homes are threatened, and there are evacuations in place for about half of them. The wildfire has burned about 1,300 acres and destroyed two unoccupied homes and one outbuilding.

The fire is 20 percent contained.
