The Amgen Tour has moved on to San Jose, but the heat the riders experienced in Sacramento and Folsom will follow them all the way to coast. The forecast is for temperatures in the 80's at the coast and mid 90's inland.

Jens Voigt with Trek Factory Racing says his last experience with high temperatures was in last year's Amgen Tour race.

Last year during a stage in Palm Springs, he told another rider the heat was causing his heart to beat at a dangerous rate. He saw a rock on the side of the road.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will be in the 80's and 90's for the riders until Saturday -the next-to-last day of the race.

"I'm gonna stop and sit on that rock -in the race- to sit on that rock until my heart rate drops to 160 and then I keep going.' And I did. But hey, three days after I won a stage, so I guess I was right to stop and give myself a break. It does have a strong effect on the body if it's extremely hot like that. Everybody has to be really careful about it."

The National Weather Service says temperatures will be in the 80's and 90's for the riders until Saturday -the next-to-last day of the race.
