Sacramento’s newest professional sports franchise, the Sacramento Republic FC soccer team, has set a regular-season, single-game attendance record for its home opener Saturday night.

Hughes Stadium on the Sacramento City College campus seats 20,231 people and is sold out for tomorrow night’s game versus the Harrisburg City Islanders.

The sellout is likely to cause some parking problems.  There are 3,000 parking spaces on campus.  There will be an overflow lot open south of Sutterville Road and several hundred spots will be available in Curtis Village.

The team urges people attending the game to carpool or take public transportation.

The sellout nearly doubles the previous record for a USL PRO regular-season game.  The all-time record is 20,886, set at last year’s championship game.
