Nevada Insurance Regulators Are Crafting New Guidelines

The Nevada Division of Insurance will be holding public meetings all over the state in the coming weeks to make sure the people can get the health care they need.

Insurance Commissioner Scott Kipper says outside Nevada’s two urban centers, some people may not have access to a specialist.

“There’s going to be certain areas of the state where that’s going to be difficult, if not impossible.”

So he’s hoping providers, insurers and residents will propose solutions. The goal is to develop guidelines to ensure all health care services are available to insured people around the state, and at an affordable rate.

“What we want to hear is either suggestions or methods of addressing that problem when either their physician is out of network, or if there are just no specialists or providers for that speciality.”

Kipper says this will be the first time the state has created such standards for certain insurance policies.
