Biden Praises High Speed Rail

Here’s what Biden said in an appearance Monday night on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” – after Meyers said many Americans who don’t live on the east coast don’t realize how efficient train travel can be.

“Jerry Brown is leading the country in having high-speed rail," Biden said. "I mean by high-speed rail, rail that can go 230, 240 miles an hour. It’s environmentally more sound, it is economically more sound, it makes sense in every way and it’s about time we get up and do it.”

During his three decades in the U.S. Senate, Biden commuted on Amtrak from Delaware to Washington, DC.

California’s high-speed rail project has yet to break ground on its opening phase in the Central Valley and is running out of time to spend three billion dollars in federal stimulus funds.

A court recently ruled the state’s high-speed rail funding plan did not comply with the ballot measure voters approved in 2008. The state is appealing the ruling.
