The explosion occurred a little after 8 a.m. About a dozen vehicles from Metro Fire responded to Aerojet Rocketdyne. No fire was found when firefighters and medics arrived.
One person was taken to the hospital with injuries. The second person was treated and released at the scene.
The Sacramento Sheriff's Department's bomb squad, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are collaborating on the investigation.
Detectives from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Explosive Ordinance Detail
have determined that this incident has no criminal involvement and appears to
be an industrial accident.
Aerojet declined to say what exploded or in what facility the explosion occurred.
The Rancho Cordova site is an engineering center for space and defense propulsion systems, a manufacturing site for solid rocket motors and liquid engines and a propulsion test facility.
