However, you won't see the aerial acrobatics of the Air Force's Thunderbirds or the Navy's Blue Angels. That's because of the federal sequestration earlier this year when the Defense Department grounded military aircraft for shows.

But Darcy Brewer with the airshow says there'll be no shortage of spectacular sights featuring civilian planes and the Royal Canadian Airforce's Snowbirds, "11 beautiful jets fly in a formation of nine and it's absolutely breathtaking," explains Brewer. "We have a lot of other jets too and aerobatic performers and when they go by you can feel them in your chest."

"Sequestration happened back in April and we had planned this show two years ago," says Brewer. "So although it did affect everybody because you won't see the big gray cargo planes and some of the fighter jets out here, we have more planes on the ramp than we've ever had."

The airshow takes place Saturday and Sunday at Mather Airport. The annual event helps raise scholarship money for kids who are interested in aviation.

Meanwhile in Southern California, Marine Corps officials say the federal government shutdown has forced cancellation of the Miramar Air Show in San Diego this weekend.
