If you live in Washoe County, and you’re 40 years old, you’ll be able to buy a health plan with the lowest possible deductible for $370 a month.

A plan with a much higher deductible would be $230 a month. Those rates could be higher for people in rural Nevada.

You can do a personalized search for plans and rates in your area on the Department of Insurance's website.

If you're lower income and you get health coverage through the exchange, Nevada Health Link, you'll get financial assistance from the federal government.

"I think that we’ve got some fairly competitive rates and plans in the
exchange," says Jon Hager, Executive Director of the Nevada exchange.

Four insurers will be part of Nevada Health Link. But a significant number of insurers will be operating outside of the new marketplace.

"Certainly the more carriers we have the better the competition, but they’re also competing with carriers outside the exchange." says Hager.

Nevada's Insurance Commissioner Scott Kipper says the level of competition between insurers does have an impact on rates.

But that’s not the only factor that affects a plan's pricing.

"We would certainly encourage and enjoy other carriers considering putting products on the exchange and I think having a year to evaluate this will help," says Kipper.

Open enrollment for the Nevada Health Link starts October 1st, for coverage starting in January.
