Gabe Ross with the Sacramento City Unified School District says 50-thousand dollars is needed to restore the playgrounds at John Sloat and Caroline Wenzel Elementary schools.
"The cost to build each playground is about $70,000 per playground," says Ross. "However the damage was covered by our insurance so we have to cover our insurance deductible which is $25,000 per school."
Ross says the money would have to come from the district's general fund, unless private donations can pay for the deductible.
As of this afternoon, donations totaled $4,000 -including $1,000 each from the Rebuild McKinley Steering Committee and the Caroline Wenzel Parent Teacher Association.
The district's long-dormant foundation was recently reactivated and this fundraising effort will be its first project.
