Transit Options Increase With BART Strike Looming

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission says commuters traveling from the Sacramento region to the Bay area would best be served by carpooling if BART trains are not running. Carpool lane hours would be extended from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. and cars with Fast Trak would pay less at toll booths.

The MTC says people who take Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor to the Richmond BART station would be affected.

“That area is served by AC Transit and that can provide connections to the inner East Bay," says the MTC's John Goodwin.  "Or, one can connect with AC Transit and make the short trip over to the El Cerrito/Del Norte BART station which is going to be a pickup point for charter bus service.”

BART has added 16 charter buses and two pickup locations since the last work stoppage on July 1st.

Two ferries would be in operation between Vallejo and San Francisco.  One is typically in service.
