The bridge project has been plagued by problems, including seismic safety bolts that cracked after being tightened in March.

Today, the Toll Bridge Oversight Committee is scheduled to brief lawmakers at a meeting in Sacramento about its investigation into why the bolts cracked.  In that briefing, officials are also expected to indicate how long they believe it will take to install a fix for the broken bolts – and whether those repairs will be finished in time for the more than six billion dollar bridge to open on Labor Day.

The bridge is replacing the span damaged during the 1989 Loa Prieta Earthquake.
