Karen McClaflin is heading the project which calls for tearing down the current California Automobile Museum and building a larger facility at the same location on Front Street along the banks of the Sacramento River.
“So it’s the Sacramento Waterfront Museums which is two museums...”
…consisting of a larger automobile museum and a Natural History Museum.
“This new museum is going to have about three times as much event space as we currently have so we’re hoping it’ll really bring some nightlife down to the waterfront as well.”
The proposal goes before the Sacramento City Planning and Design Commission on Thursday. McClaflin expects planners to ask about the building’s appearance.
“We’re going to be putting up polycarbonate on the outside which is going to be translucent, you know, how many stories; what’s this going to look like from the freeway…”
If all goes as planned, construction on the two-story building would start next spring.
