Soterios Johnson
Weekend and Fill-in Host, News
Soterios hails from New York City, where he was a news host and anchor at WNYC/New York Public Radio for 22 years. He spent the last 16 of them as local host of Morning Edition.
During his tenure at WNYC, he also produced features that aired during Morning Edition and filed stories for NPR and Marketplace.
Soterios seemed strangely drawn to the news, even as a young child. He would lull himself to sleep listening to the all-news radio station WCBS.
"As a kid, I always wanted to be in the know and to spread the word," he says.
In high school, Soterios worked at a small FM station in his hometown in New Jersey, followed by a four-year stint as an undergraduate at Columbia University on WKCR, New York. He was an Associate Producer at Newsweek On-Air and worked in the field of science journalism for several years. He earned his master's degree at Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism.
Currently, in addition to hosting local breaks during Weekend Edition on Saturdays and Sundays, he is a Media Host and Trainer at UC Davis’ Office of Strategic Communications. He also hosts the California Now Podcast, which explores the people, places and experiences that make California such a fascinating travel destination.
When not working, he likes to lie down and think about going to the gym.
