Containment Grows As Crews Continue To Battle Wall Fire

UPDATE 8:43 p.m. Tuesday, July 11: The Wall Fire at Chinese Wall and Swedes Flat roads is 5,800 acres and is 55 percent contained. 

UPDATE 6:14 p.m. Tuesday, July 11: Residents evacuated due to the Wall Fire braced for news Tuesday afternoon on whether their homes survived. While some evacuation orders remain, containment for the blaze has grown to 45 percent.

UPDATE 5:02 p.m. Tuesday, July 11:  Authorities say the Wall Fire burning near Oroville has now destroyed at least three dozen homes.

The numbers released Tuesday come after fire crews surveyed the destruction.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says at least 4,000 people are still under evacuation orders. However, officials also announced some reductions in those orders Tuesday afternoon. 

UPDATE 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 11: Crews continue to battle the Wall Fire east of Oroville in Butte County. The fire is now 45 percent contained and has burned 5,800 acres. Evacuation orders are still active.

UPDATE 8:29 p.m. Monday, July 10: The Wall Fire had grown to 5,800 acres Monday evening and was 40 percent contained. CAL FIRE says 37 structures have been destroyed, 5 have been damaged, and another 5,400 structures are still threatened.

Nearly 1,700 firefighters are currently assigned to the blaze.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m. Monday, July 10: Some Wall Fire evacuation orders have been downgraded Monday evening to evacuation warnings.

UPDATE 3:15 p.m. Monday, July 10: CAL FIRE has rescinded evacuation warnings on the west side of the fire. A full map of evacuation zones is being updated here.

CAL FIRE is now also tracking a 10-15 acre fire south of Oroville at on the Palermo-Honcut Highway south of Cox Lane.

Some 1,600 firefighters are continuing to battle on Monday, the Wall Fire burning east of Oroville in Butte County.

The blaze is threatening 5,400 structures. About 4,000 people have been evacuated. Another 7,400 were told to prepare to leave their homes as fire swept through grassy foothills.

The fire has blackened 5,600 acres and is 35 percent contained.

Meanwhile in Southern California, at least 3,500 people evacuated as two fires exploded in size at separate ends of Santa Barbara County. A third one threatened homes near a town in San Luis Obispo County.
