Two people who were found in Rancho Cordova with a dead three-year-old girl in the back of their SUV have appeared in court on murder charges.
Untwan Smith and Angela Phakhin were contacted Wednesday by a Rancho Cordova Police Officer who noticed their white Toyota Rav4 was parked facing the wrong way on Rod Beaudry Drive.
Smith had an outstanding warrant and was detained.
A search of the vehicle revealed the child under some blankets.
Investigators report no obvious sign of trauma.
