Trump signed an executive order Friday to roll back restrictions on offshore oil drilling that California officials say opens the door to new drilling off the state's coast.
Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson says she will write legislation that would ban new oil and gas infrastructure like pipelines in state waters and on the coast. The Santa Barbara Democrat said her bill will prevent new drilling in federal waters by curtailing companies' ability to transport new oil and gas through coastal waters controlled by the state.
Western States Petroleum Association spokeswoman Kara Siepmann declined to comment on Jackson's proposal but said its member companies are watching the issue closely.
