New details about suspected human trafficking at a large marijuana grow operation were released Tuesday by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, in July three victims with serious injuries escaped the grow operation in West Point. That's about 25 miles northeast of San Andreas.
Captain Jim Macedo said his office is not ready to release details about the victims’ injuries.
“I can tell you that one of my deputies did make a comment to me about this case being sad because of what, uh, the condition of those victims and their emotional state when they were recovered.”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, more than 23,000 marijuana plants were found at the site.
Two female suspects were arrested on various charges, including human trafficking, kidnapping, battery and marijuana cultivation.
