Gold Rush Days / Facebook

Labor Day is observed every year on the first Monday in September as summer season comes to an end. Some choose to spend their time enjoying the last bits of extra warm weather with an outdoor picnic while others may just want to get some rest. If you don’t have plans yet, we’ve rounded up some local events for you to check out over the three-day weekend.

Hot Jazz Jubilee | Double Tree By Hilton Sacramento | September 2 - 5

This is a four-day event for the jazz lover in you. Over 25 bands and guest artists will keep the crowds entertained as they dance and sing along to their favorite jazz tunes. You can check the schedule to buy separate tickets, or you can purchase a pass for all events. Also, you can read more about the Sacramento jazz scene here.

Gold Rush Days | Old Sacramento | September 2 -5

This four-day annual event takes you back in time by "bringing history to life" in Old Sacramento. You can see actors dressed as your favorite historical figures or people from the Gold Rush era. Enjoy tunes from that time, while riding on a wagon and going on a pony or train ride. Don't forget about plenty of dining options for snacks, food and drinks. Adults over 21 can join the evening fun with the Gold Rush Beer Crawl Friday starting at 6 p.m.

Sacramento Greek Festival | Sacramento Convention Center | September 3 - 5

The Sacramento Greek Festival boasts authentic Greek food and culture during Labor Day weekend. You can enjoy Greek dance and music performances, learn Greek phrases and indulge in various Greek dishes offered at the festival. The menu items include beef gyros, pitas, roasted lamb, shrimp dishes, and Greek coffee.

Yolo Brewfest 2016 | Historic Downtown Woodland | September 3

This is a one-day event benefiting the Woodland Luna Vista Rotary Club. Over 30 breweries and food vendors will be at the brewfest where you can drink and eat all day. You can also enjoy live music and entertainment. There will also be free bike valet available.

Chalk It Up | Fremont Park | September 3 - 4

This free public event features over 200 artists who will create chalk art pieces. Others can join in the art-making or participate in other creative activities that will be available throughout the park. There will also be live music performances during all three days. Attendees can pick and choose from a variety of food like tacos and tamales, kettle corn and even try some West African food.

Sacramento Rainbow Festival | Downtown Sacramento 20th & K | September 4

This annual festival celebrates Sacramento's LGBTQ community while raising funds for local non-profits. Live entertainment starts at noon with a variety of performances throughout the day, including Sacramento Gay Men's Chorus and Dance Recording Artist Dyson. Battle of the Drag Bitches ft. Detox wraps up the festivities.

Davis Labor Day Races | Central Park, Davis | September 5

This is the 22nd annual Davis Labor Day Races event benefiting local schools, Team Davis and other community programs. The day starts with a 5K Doggy Dash, then the 5K and 10K races start. There's also a 1K Kids' Fun Run at 10:30 a.m. Online registration is now closed but you can still sign up and participate on the event day.
