Update 8:50 a.m. Sunday: Firefighting crews have made progress this weekend containing both the Soberanes fire near Big Sur in Monterey County and the Cold Fire near Winters in Yolo County.
The Soberanes fire is now 57,500 acres, and containment has increased to 45% despite continuing challenges due to its remote location and rugged terrain.

Original Post: The Soberanes wildfire burning in Monterey county near Big Sur has grown to 55,600 acres as of Saturday morning and is now at 40% containment.
Cal Fire reports that the blaze, which began on July 22, 2016, is due to an illegal campfire, and is asking that anyone with more information call their tip line at: (800) 468-4408. The fire, which is burning in rugged, inaccessible terrain, has created an ongoing challenge for firefighters. It has destroyed 57 homes.

In Yolo county, the Cold Fire burning near Lake Berryessa grew to 5,385 acres overnight and is currently 35% contained. As of Friday, August 5, all evacuations due the Cold Fire had been lifted.
