The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors has voted to approve the introduction of an ordinance that would increase water rates. Next week the board will actually vote on the ordinance – which includes increases in rates this year and next to customers with flat-rate billing.
The ordinance calls for an increase of $3.50 per month this year and $2.50 per month next year for 46,000 people who live in areas where bills include fees for infrastructure and operating costs.
Four thousand people living in areas with fees only for operating costs would see an increase of $2.00 per month this year and a dollar per month next year. Most of the people paying both fees live between Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove.
The Sacramento County Water Agency says a fall-off in construction meant less revenue from development fees. The rate increases are intended to cover that shortfall and provide reliable income for debt service on two new facilities.
