Two Union Mine High School football players were hospitalized with head and neck injuries after their game Friday. The Eldorado County Sheriff's Department has made an arrest as the result of its investigation.
The sheriff's department arrested a 17-year-old Union Mine student this morning for providing the narcotic Adderall to another student.
The department is not saying if the drug was involved in the collapse of the two sophomore players after the game.
A statement released on behalf of the family of junior varsity player, Nick Brown says he suffered a brain bleed after a "high-impact blow to the head" and required an emergency craniotomy.
He is in critical condition at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
A statement from the family of Justin Schwartz says he suffered a concussion and a nerve injury to his neck. He was treated and released.
School administrators are inspecting the equipment the boys wore.
School administrators and the sheriff's department have been interviewing students and reviewing game tape to determine the cause of the boys' injuries.
Michael Garrison is with the California Interscholastic Federation. He says schools are required to submit football gear for inspection every year.
"Helmets, shoulder pads: those are all things that by law have to be certified by a manufacturer. So, everybody sends those in, has them reconditioned and then they're re-certified."
