That’s the economic benefit the winged mammals provide walnut farmers as pest control, according to Rachael Long, a farm advisor for the University of California Cooperative Extension. And considering there are 250,000 bats living under the Yolo Causeway alone, that’s one heck of a financial benefit. Long will be discussing her research Wednesday at G Street Wunderbar in Davis. The talk is part of UC Davis’ Science Café series. The series gives attendees a chance to talk with a guest speaker about his or her research over coffee or beer. Long joins us ahead of the Science Café to talk about the benefits of using bats for pest management. LINKS: Events Page Green Blog: Bats In The Belfry?
