One Piglet Down, Four More Giant Works Of Art To Go

It already has picked a giant piglet. Now, the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission has selected locations for four more large works to be displayed at the new arena in downtown Sacramento.
 
One of the pieces will be inside the arena on the backs of the escalators. Two others will be on J Street.

Shelly Willis is the commission's executive director. She says the fourth piece will be on the L Street side of the arena.

"The panel wanted to give whoever's selected as a finalist for that particular project a real open palette so to speak," says Willis.

Kelly Tayler is a mosaic tile artist from Roseville and says she's excited by the opportunity.

"When I heard about this particular project and what was coming up, I had some cool ideas of stuff I'd like to do and that hopefully would be well received," says Tayler.

The arts commission has a budget of a little more than a million dollars for three of the  works. It has not decided how it will fund the fourth. It also is considering the use of L.E.D. displays to showcase local art and to generate advertising revenue.

The commission will issue a request for artist's qualifications at the end of April and will meet again in June to select the finalists.
