Construction of the new downtown Sacramento arena will soon move from underground support work to pouring concrete.
Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger say work crews have almost completed their work to prepare the ground for the arena's foundation.
"We just finished the pile process. So, we have 980 piles in the ground. Think of those as the roots to the building. They hold up the foundation. Our big, first concrete pour will take place in the next ten days or so.. People will start seeing steel coming up out of the ground by the third or fourth week of February."
The Kings are paying $254 million of the $477 million cost. Granger says other buildings around the arena are also under construction.
"Our owners are investing another $250 million into restaurants and retails and hotels and office space and living space, all of which will open in October of 2016."
The arena's framework could be completed by mid-summer.
The future home of the Kings will take up about 380,000 square feet of a 600,000 square-foot site between J and L and 5th and 7th Streets..
