The United States Olympic Committee today is considering which city it will support in a bid to host of the 2024 Olympics.
San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Boston are the four finalists. The winning city will then submit a bid to the International Olympic Committee.
Sacramento has supported the San Francisco bid by identifying hotel rooms and training sites that could be used by athletes from around the world.
Mike Sophia is Director of the Sacramento Sports Commission. The commission is poised to act if San Francisco wins both bids and lands the games.
"In the years leading up to the Olympics, we would be really aggressive in terms of reaching out to some of the other countries that want to come and train," says Sophia. "We would be really aggressive in working with national governing bodies and federations to host events here: World Cups and whatever they have leading up to the games."
Sophia says Lake Natoma and the Sacramento State University Campus could be used for Olympic events, but they are not currently part of the San Francisco bid.
Sacramento will host the 2016 U.S.A Track and Field National Junior Olympic Championships next July.
