Five recurring musical themes weave through the finale of Mozart's Symphony 41.
Mozart repeatedly weaves five recurring themes through the final moments of his final symphony. It’s an ingenious tapestry that’s been celebrated for over 200 years by fellow composers and music scholars. Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 - titled the “Jupiter” Symphony by an impresario apparently intent on capitalizing on the music’s grand scale - is the final of three that he composed in quick succession that he may have hoped to premiere as a series. However, there’s no record that Mozart ever heard the Symphony 41 in his lifetime. It’s today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
