Sacramento County is seeing a surge of early voting compared to previous elections.

There are nearly 900,000 registered voters in Sacramento County, and more than 380,000 have already cast their ballots by mail or drop box. Another 4,221 ballots have been returned at vote centers.

The total number of ballots cast so far in Sacramento County is more than double the number returned at this point during the 2018 election.

Nearly 9 million Californians have voted as of Wednesday.

County officials are encouraging early voting to avoid overcrowding and long lines at vote centers on election day. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked by November 3rd.

Neighboring counties are also seeing high early-voter turnout.

El Dorado County has 135,201 registered voters and received nearly 62,000 ballots, split about evenly between mail-in and drop boxes.

Placer County has 270,879 registered voters and over 134,000 ballots have been returned.
