California is one of just five states now setting record-highs in confirmed cases of COVID-19.

State officials are figuring out how to respond to the spike in cases while continuing to move through the various stages of reopenings. Much of the response happens at the county level as local leaders essentially make the final call on testing, safety protocols, and reopenings.

Today we check in with a handful of counties in the region about how they’re managing with COVID-19, the statewide face mask order, and more.

Today's Guests:
  • Butte County Public Health director Danette York
  • El Dorado County communication director Carla Hass
  • Nevada County Health & Human Services director Ryan Gruver

  • Johns Hopkins University's global COVID-19 case tracker
