Sacramento Republic FC

It’s close to official: Sacramento getting a Major League Soccer (MLS) team. The new stadium that is slated to accompany the franchise — MLS #29 — is poised to expand the city’s downtown core into the Railyards.

But with Kaiser Permanente, new housing, retail and a new courthouse coming to the area, as well, will the Railyards become a destination hotspot or a place to avoid on game days?

Sports economist Patrick Rishe joins Insight to weigh in on what an MLS team and stadium could do for a city like Sacramento. He’s Director of the Sports Business Program and Professor of Practice in Sports Business at the Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis.
