The number of Overdoses with painkillers like Oxycontin and Percocet has reportedly been going up in some jurisdictions as some physicians illegally provide them to drug dealers for sale on sites like Craigslist.
“More people die from prescription painkiller deaths than heroin and cocaine combined,” saysState Senator Ted Lieu who sent a letter to Craigslist asking the company to prohibit advertisements for prescription drugs without prescriptions.
“They have the technology to filter them out and ban them,” says Lieu. “They simply choose not to do so. And we’re calling again on Craigslist to take down these ads.”
Lieu says if Craigslist doesn’t act he’ll look into the possibility of bringing criminal charges or suing to force action. A Nevada state senator has said he’s considering similar action
Craigslist did take down an adult section a few years ago after charges it was being used to solicit prostitution.
