UPDATE 9 a.m.: The thousand-mile coast of California is covered in warnings, watches and advisories for rain, flooding and high surf as another El Nino storm moves in from the Pacific. Winter weather advisories are also in effect in Nevada.
El Niño is finally making an appearance in Northern California this week. A series of storms lined up over the Pacific Ocean is expected to bring several inches of rain and two feet of snow to the northern part of the state over the next two weeks.
This month's mudslides in Southern California was an early look at what could happen if or when El Niño hits the state. How to prevent such catastrophes was the topic of a state senate committee hearing near Los Angeles Wednesday.
