Don Giovanni

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's operatic masterpiece of the ever womanizing Don stirs the pot of amorous adventures but eventually meets his maker in the an opera that is considered by many musicologists as one of the greatest works ever composed. The story on which Lorenzo da Ponte based his libretto about the statue of a murdered man accepting an insolent invitation to banquet with his murderer, appearing at the feast and dragging him down to hell, is very old and wonderfully sung in this 1961 recording. The singers are Eberhard Wachter, Joan Sutherland, Luigi Alva, Gottlob Frick, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Giuseppe Taddei, Piero Cappuccilli and Graziella Sciutti. Carlo Maria Giulini conducts.
