Third Man Vinyl Giveaway THIS WEEKEND!

Saturday between Noon and 5:00 I'll be DJing the Cap Radio Record Sale. Find me at the Howe Bout Arden Shopping Center and win five vinyl singles from various artists on Jack White's record label.

The Cap Radio Record Sale is going on all weekend and you'll find albums, DVDs and video games (a HUGE collection of Sega Genesis titles came in). It's one of my favorite events the station puts on, if you're a music lover it'll soon be your favorite too.

On Bon Iver

or, HERE BE HIPSTERS!!

126 - Bon Iver CoverI had the lengthiest discussion about This. One. Band. just few nights ago with my fiancée.  See, together we coined the term "Sad Cabin Music." You know it when you hear it:  Songs and bands with a nature-y slant. They're solemn, quiet and not altogether gripping. I personally peg Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, a few Iron and Wine records in that category.

Oddly, I don't feel that way about the new Bon Iver.  Meg does.

We had SUCH a debate over the merits of authenticity, image, reasons for incorporating the various instruments involved.  After about 40 minutes I realized THIS is how religions are created. Two people agree on certain principles, eventually schisms form; all the sudden - BOOM! - Protestants!

I like the new Bon Iver record.  Meg doesn't ... and it's FINE!  There were years I'd have fought you to the teeth about this topic.  Now I realise it's so much more freeing to let it be (though don't expect me to lie down and take it when you start going on about how great Jefferson Starship is.  You simply CAN'T build a city's infrustructure on one kind of music.  It isn't sound!).  Take it from me, your old pal Jacob Marley, life is too short to pidgeonhole bands, let alone argue about a record you didn't make.  Enjoy the genre bend of this week's show!
