Not-So-Mean Streets!

Street of the Love of Days by Amor de Dias

Subtle, sweet, low sound
Morning flowers, empty park
After a spring rain

122 - AdD - 02That is an accidental haiku born from jotting descriptive terms about Amor de Dias' debut record.  Street of the Love of Days was released last week on Merge Records (the label that magnified fields and set all those arcades afire) and is the formerly secret project by The Clientele's Alasdair MacLean and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of UK indie pop act Pipas.

The lead single ("Bunnhill Fields") and final track in this week's episode is as aggressive as SotLoD gets; hardly a critique as the mix of stark simplicity and gentle bossa nova will keep you engaged.  Take the title track as an example.  Like a perfectly mixed drink that compliments the meal, the saxophone section highlights recorders, strings and vocals from both MacLean and Núñez-Fernández.  A welcome surprise I never saw coming.

Want to class up your museum?  Have you a basement library that needs fresh atmosphere?  Even if you don't, Street of the Love of Days is a gently layered miasma of introspection, deserving of a warm, dry nook in your music collection.

So Long, Arch!

122 - Arch - JacketMike Archibald is departs the show this week. Arch has written many articles for the blog, taken countless pictures at our in-studios and shows thought the Central Valley. He took the lead on booking bands and sifted through I-Don't-Know-HOW-Many records for the weekly show.

His temper is inhuman. There is absolutely no stressing this guy and not for lack of trying. He had two, count 'em TWO, bikes stolen in the span of ONE month. He vigorously debated various CPR staff on merits of not voting and rolled with every punch my scatter-brained management style could throw.

So today I raise a glass and toast the health of Mike Archibald, Off Air intern for lo these many months. Tomorrow I confront my trials of drinking on the job.

Thanks Arch,
Nick
