Off Air / In Depth: The Black Keys.
To be sure, there is
no shortage of Black Keys
records.

. . . but there's something that stands out about the Akron,
OH duo's seventh release Brothers. The four
tracks on this week's episode showcase Dan Auerbach and Patrick
Carney's more melodious side.
Maybe it had to do with the lead up. My friend Suze (of
KSSU fame) told me she went to
the listening party debut at this year's SXSW. Then these post
cards started showing up in the mail:

Well…that's informative.
While I've liked previous Black Keys albums - let me
tell you - Brothers is the first I've instantly
loved. It's the first time I've listened to one of their
albums and heard more than straightforward contemporary blues
rock. Right out of the gate the band gives offers listeners a
bright, hooky dose of what's to come for rest of the album's
fifteen songs, all the while remaining true to their core
sound. It's a refreshing evolution and I'm happy to share it
with you.

Death Bed & Plagiarism
Shoosh! It's been a rough couple of weeks for Patton
Oswalt . . . if "rough" is based on how often your jokes are stolen
by twenty-somethings.
May: Joke Thievery at COLUMBIA!! (what?!) . . . during the university's commencement address (WHAT?!) . . . by the valedictorian (GAH!!!!!)
April: A young comedian becomes the unwitting recipient
of YouTube scorn when
he's caught lifting large sections of Patton's act in
Davenport, IA

(full disclosure: I stole this picture from The Onion's AV website)
Try as I did - I could find NO correlation between the new
song by The Pony's called "Deathbed" with Patton's bit "Death Bed
(The Bed That Eats People)" but they are both part of this week's
playlist and worth a listen.
